The club and the theatre

I went out last Saturday and found myself wandering around the pleasant city centre - aimlessly looking for something to take me by surprise. When I came to the Berzelii Park, I entered the China Theatre and discovered a nightclub!

Miss Disco shaking it at Pom PomThe China Theatre is an impressive venue, and was originally unveiled as a cinema in 1928. Architect Albin Stark drew inspiration from his recent trip to China, hence the name I guess. Anyway, today the place is mostly used for concerts, shows, musicals and so on. In other words, if you want to hit a movie, this is not the place nowadays! I found a long queue outside, and a nightclub inside - which made me feel both happy and uninformed all at once. The latter feeling however faded after about a minute. The club for the evening was called Pom-Pom. I reckoned I fit in perfectly in my disco ball outfit. Other nights at the China Theatre you can find clubs such as Raw Fusion and Hanoi by night! If you’re coming to Stockholm looking for a place with an East-Asian club feel to it, look no further. This is definitely where I’ll be going every time I feel this urge anyway. Well, that was all for now.

Party on.

Southside clubbing!

I’ve been out partying again. Slap my fingers and call me naughty! But hey, what would you expect from a person dressed in a disco ball outfit living in a wonderful city that never sleeps? Now that’s precisely what I thought…

Miss Disco in full effect!I gathered some friends and we decided to hit the southern parts of town, that being Södermalm. This area contains several great bars and (or depending if you dance or not) nightclubs that appeal to those with the rock gene embedded within their musical souls. I’m pretty sure I’ve told you all about Debaser before, but as it so happens – that’s not where we went this time. We started out at Medborgarplatsen, the heart of Södermalm if you so will, and sat down on the square for a few drinks in the setting evening sunlight. With our moods going through the roof we all felt it was time for some dancing and decided to move along to Skånegatan, Stockholm’s unofficial own High Street of pop and rock life. Not only can you find interesting stores that all sell pop culture items, you’ll also find great bars and restaurants here that follow the same theme. We ended up in the Pet Sounds bar, in its basement to be exact. Here we stayed a few hours shaking our bodies (in my case that would be the suit) to some great tunes. After that we felt a little exhausted and decided to cool down at a nearby bar called Mellis. Sat down outside, had a drink – and then we went back to dancing. What a great evening!

It’s so good to be me,

Oh the glamour…

Hey everyone, it sure has been a while. But not in vain I might add. Lately I’ve been exploring the more glamorous side of town, visiting both the Casino and the cool club nights of F12.

Miss Disco outside the casinoFredsgatan 12, or F12 as we Stockholmers like to call it, is one of our more fancy restaurants in town. I’m pretty sure both Sven and Mr Meatball have written about it before. What I’m also pretty sure of is that they have both completely missed that it nightly hosts one of the cooler nightclubs in town out on the terrace and stairs of the historic building. If there’s one place to be seen by the people you want to be seen by, this is it. In other words, you can be sure to see me here! The other night I decided to let the dancing shoes have a night off and slipped into something a lot more uncomfortable to join me at the casino. This place, and concept if you like, is fairly new to us, having opened only a couple of years ago. The place is great though. Whether you like to spend a lot of money or not – the gambling and bars they have offer equal entertainment with blinking machines, glamorous card tables, and twinkling outfits. A great place to enjoy a glitzier start to any evening!Mr Meatball was here!

Enjoy the party.

Russian Spring Break

I recently stumbled upon this great new club in town that I just couldn’t resist the urge to write about. The club is called Russian Spring Break (of course it is!) - but for all of you looking for newly educated Russians, look elsewhere.

Miss Disco at TrädgårdenResident DJ’s Jeansbjörn and Yxa (that’s DJ Jeans Bear and DJ Axe) are the masterminds behind this club that now resides at the fabulous outdoor nightclub on Kungsholmen that is called Trädgården (The Garden). Apparently the club is named after DJ Yxa’s favourite drink and the music they play comes from a whole load of places that ring rather more tropical bells than those of Russia. Think Houston, Baltimore, Jamaica, Paris, Brazil, London and Atlanta, and you’ll have arrived at the dance-orientated hiphop & club-remixes that blend together with the people who come here. I came here as an unintroduced beginner, but by the time I left I had proved to everyone that it takes a whole lot more than the disguise of a disco ball outfit to shake the stuff the way I do. I felt like such a success, I’ll be going back next time to prove it wasn’t a one-off occasion.Mr Meatball was here!

See you soon in Stockholm I hope!

Curb side drinking like no other!

More exciting club news to report! As it’s finally half-way through May, lots of clubs have now opened up their outdoor seating, which is nothing short of absolutely fab!

Miss Disco at DebaserThis past week I’ve visited both Sturecompagniet and their outdoor area Utecompagniet as well as Debaser Slussen. As always, great! At Utecompagniet my friends and I had a chilled glass of white wine (or two, or three) and spent the evening checking out all the fancy people and celebrities around us. It’s located right in the heart of Stureplan, so if you get cold or feel like going somewhere else there are tons of clubs around to choose from! At Debaser most people opt for beer, though they do have some pretty amazing frozen drinks. I say try them all! We came early for once and enjoyed a gazpacho appetizer with our drinks while the sun was warming our faces. There can be a long line to get in at Debaser between the clubbing peak hours of 10 pm to 2 am. If you want to catch the live gigs at, it is usually a good idea to come a little earlier. World famous rock bands of all sorts come here to play, making it a great venue to discover new acts.  Now you don’t want to miss out on that right?

Toodles!

Busy busy!

Time again with a little report from the dancing disco ball. This week I’m pleased to tell you that I have been shaking my stuff at the popular boat Patricia. This place is a different club each time I go, so for safety I went 3 days in a row.

Miss Disco at PatriciaI didn’t want to miss a good night, so that’s actually the real reason I went to Patricia 3 times in a row. I guess that is kind of special, but I’m a special girl. The theme for the weekend was Heaven and Hell, prompting people to show up sporting a nice outfit of being either good or bad. I turned up in my disco ball of course, what would you have expected? The music they play is a mixture between all sorts of styles, but generally the latest from disco, party, R&B, and so on. In other words, once you’re on the dance floor there’s hardly a second of standing still. Sunday is gay night as always at Patricia. These nights are exceptionally great if you’re looking for a nightclub with a jam-packed dance floor. Other times they throw all sorts of themed parties: Miami Beach, Pirate, and whatever else fits the bill for a disco-throbbing boat in the middle of town.

That’s all for now,
Miss Disco

Busy busy!

Well I’ve been so busy I’m not sure how to fit it all into this entry, but I’ll give it my best shot. First there were all those things I did, and then all the stuff that I’m going to do! Stockholm is one busy city I must confess!

Miss Disco outside Spy BarSo I went to the fashionable Spy Bar the other day. The queue was as always a little longer than I’d hoped, then again – I always show up late. The doormen always let their favourite disco ball pass through though. Inside the crowd was loud and enjoying themselves, and all in all it’s still an exceptionally good place to party. Another place I’ve recently discovered is the upstairs floor of the restaurant Landet. A little ride outside of the city centre, but well worth it – this scene offers great clubs, and the occasional live gig from both well-known acts as well as the bright future of tomorrow. Apart from the usual nightclubs, I’ve also found that my disco ball costume is a big hit at several of the great bars around town. Had a few drinks with some friends the other day, and I was the centre of all attention. We managed to cover the rounds at Scandic Anglais, East, and Riche in all but one single evening! Try to beat that if you can. If you want to know what’s going on in town, I found a great place to keep track. Click here and see for yourself.

Life’s a party,

Can’t stop moving!

Hey everyone. This time round I thought I’d reveal some information on where to go in the near future. That is, if you’re in Stockholm and you want to party - because the club scene is bustling with activity!

NeuNow, there are a whole lot of things happening on the club scene in town, most notably some new places have appeared. First there’s the revamped Hell’s Kitchen that has replaced the former resident in the same house at Stureplan, (also called kitchen, but in the less cool Swedish way: “Köket”.) Next door, a brand new concept called Neu has opened. This nightclub promises to offer great service, and claim they don’t have any dance floors. I know for a fact that this is not the case, dancing was fully possible and I did it in style. Anyway, with the spring finally here, it’s only a matter of time until the weather allows for all those great outdoor nightclubs. And if outdoors is what you like, I can warmly recommend Debaser where one can also warm to indoor concerts. Apart from that, I guess it’s the usual trade for now. I’m off to a friend’s club at Spy Bar, I’ll let you know all about that next time!

Keep spinning,
Miss Disco

Let’s get the party started!

Wow! Not only can I keep on clubbing in my favourite costume, I get to blog about it too! I’m not really a disco ball, I just ended up in this suit after the airplane part of the musical had already been cast.

Miss DiscoBut lucky lucky me, because having stepped into the eyes and ears of the disco ball outfit, I’m not stepping out. I presume it’s this intense dedication and love of nightlife that earned me this coveted spot as an author of the cast’s blog. So you watched the musical? Fantastic huh? Well that’s not even half of the glam and glory that Stockholm has to offer. Trust me, I’m out and about bopping my head and spinning my costume at clubs and bars all over town, all around the clock. That’s what I intend to add to this blog, because the clubbing never ends! There’ll be the odd tip or two on where to go - but I’ll also bring you interesting gossip and news on what’s going on. Isn’t that great!?

Keep spinning,
Miss Disco
