In almost every city most of the interesting stuff seems to happen in the suburbs. So I decided to get on the train and leave the inner city. And return with a full shopping bag as my goal.
First I decided to go south and visit Kungens Kurva (Swedish for King’s Corner, named after king Gustaf V who crashed his Cadillac in this particular corner after a hunting session in 1946). Kungens Kurva is located in Skärholmen and you take the underground’s green line to get here. Here you can visit the first IKEA in the world and Heron City (a big mall including the gigantic home electronic chain Media Markt, movie theatres, food courts and so on). I filled up my yellow IKEA bag with usual cheap classics such as tea lights and candleholders. Then I headed north. To Kista Galleria. A really nice mall including lots of nice cafés, foodcourts, movie theatres, hair salons, pedicure salons, clothing stores and if you’re in to shoes (I can tell you I am) this is the place to be. There are shoes, shoes and even more shoes in various price ranges. After buying three pairs of shoes I went back to the underground station (located in the mall, perfect if you don’t want to mess up your hair if it’s rainy outside) and went back to the city. But I can tell you; the suburbs of Stockholm are the place to be if you’re a shoppaholic!

One of the biggest selections of street and skatewear you’ll find at Caliroots, Brunnsgatan 9. They rock brands such as ALIFE, Vans, Ice Cream, 10 Deep, Nike SB, Stussy, Crooks and Castles among others. The selection are updated on a regularly basis and they also have a really nice web shop. To find Sweden’s own top skatewear brand WESC you should head to their concept store at Kungsgatan 66. Here you find a nice selection of their latest collection as well as some cool skateboards, trucks and other skate items. Are you looking for sneakers, take the train to Södermalm and go to Sneakers n Stuff at Åsögatan. They have the biggest selection of vintage and new sneaker models from Air Jordan, Air Max, Air Force Ones, Converse, Adidas, New Balance etc etc. You’ll also find nice tees and sweaters from Milkcrate Clothing, Mixwell and Keep Diggin NYC. And the best part: If you’re almost out of cash, just grab a cup of coffee and lounge in their cafeteria while listening to the DJ spinning the latest club bangers.
The shopping mall of Sturegallerian is one of my firm favourites, with a wide selection of great stores, both well known and smaller designer boutiques. It’s so easy to lose track of time in here, especially when wandering around the stores with some friends. When we went here recently however, we made sure we wouldn’t lose track of our time. We immediately went to the bathing facilities of Sturebadet that lie within the mall. Here we booked ourselves up for some nice treatments during the afternoon. They offer great massages, facial treatments, body, feet, and anything else one could possibly require from a good spa. Once you’ve had your treatment, a nice little swim in the pool is dearly recommended. We had a fantastic time, even though we cut our shopping spree short of several hours. And once we were done at Sturebadet, we decided to treat ourselves to some more of the Sture-hospitality found around here. Just outside, with a fabulous outdoor seating towards
This bag is amazing when it comes to its carrying capabilities! Usually I’ll be visiting my home at least once during my shopping days, just to offload some bags so I can keep on going. But ever since I brought my newly purchased oversized plastic bag from IKEA, I can make an entire days worth of shopping all go down into one single bag. Impressive, I know! It might not be the most stylish artefact I have been known to carry, but at least it’s Swedish design in its most true shape and colours. Let me tell you about the other day: In a single bag-carrying-shopping-spree I managed to first visit every store there is in
To begin with I headed on over to
Today I spent the day in the more central parts of town and especially in the mall known as Gallerian. Located between the Central Station and Kungsträdgården and home to great shops like H&M, Top Shop, and MQ who sell a whole range of Swedish designer brands. (Filippa K, Acne, Bondelid, Peak, and J. Lindeberg to name a few.) It’s a nice hang-out when the weather isn’t as nice as one is use to. I started the day with a fat-free yogurt cone in the ice-cream parlour located here. Guilty pleasure made innocent! Met up with some friends at Top Shop, for the latest and greatest in fashion from London. Always a pick-me-up! Right across the street you find the huge department store
In this area you’ll find the more pricey shops, with everything from Gucci to the more streetwear inspired fashion such as the shopper’s Mecca known as Urban Outfitters. This huge store, with shops all around the world, has finally found its way to Stockholm. Located in an old movie theatre, it’s pretty spectacular. Here you can find that special gift you won’t find anywhere else, all sorts of fun gadgets and of course fashion to die for! In other words, that is my words, a huge two thumbs up! Further down the same street, Biblioteksgatan, by the corner of Norrmalmstorg you can find the store Solo. If you can’t find the perfect fit jeans here, they simply do not exist! Furthermore they have great clothes for all tastes, and rest assure that everything found in here will leave you nothing short of trendy!
The area between Medborgarplatsen and Skanstull is fashionably known as SoFo, short for “South of Folkungagatan”. Here you’ll find lots of independent designer shops, cool clothes and vintage stuff. First there’s Tjallamalla, a haven for girls who like new trendy clothes that haven’t quite hit H&M or the high street yet. Local design talent sell jewellery and shoes here too. I also recommend the cool shop
After passing Slussen I walked up the hill that is Götgatsbacken. Although fairly steep, it’s well worth the effort once you reach all the lovely shops and stores. I began by looking through H&M, which is what all Swedes do when the chance appears. Then I continued to visit the whole
Inga. Remember the name, and shopping will be your game! I have made a living from knowing where good deals become bargains. But that is all secondary to the fact that living in Stockholm means I have everything I need and more just around the corner. I might pick up the odd traditional Swedish dress now and then, but it’s all mostly a façade. In truth, I’m a complete urban wild-child! Now where was I? Right, the blog! I’ll be revealing to you what my shopping sprees are like, and where I think you should go when you come to this fantastic city! Isn’t that a great idea! So keep your eyes peeled for my posts, and save your money for when you come to Stockholm!
